Contract: Full time/6-month fixed term contract (possibility of an extra 3 month extension)
About Sir Bernard:
Bernard has been a Member of Parliament since 1992; representing Harwich and North Essex since 2010. He is currently Chairman of the Liaison Committee and a member of both the Standards and Privileges committees. He is also Chair of the European Research Group Steering Committee and formally Chair of the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Select Committee. He holds a strong interest in energy and environmental policy and plays an active role in cross-party, high level strategic policy groups.
About the role:
This is a key role in the Westminster team, working very closely alongside Bernard. You will be involved in all areas of Bernard’s Parliamentary work, with plenty of opportunity to contribute and work collaboratively.
Although a short-term role, this position will offer exceptional developmental opportunities, from an MP who values the contribution of his staff and is keen to offer mentorship and training to the right candidate.
The successful candidate will support Bernard with committee business, undertake research, write speeches, and monitor parliamentary business, legislation, and other relevant news, to ensure the MP is fully briefed.
About you:
You will need to have some Parliamentary experience; know how to access the library and House resources, understand the rhythms of Westminster and the support an MP needs from their team.
The ideal candidate will be educated to at least degree level and able to absorb detailed policy information with ease. The office prides itself on working collectively, with a positive attitude and shared values, and welcome a new member of the team who will share that ethos.
